Event Planning Guide: How Many Portable Restrooms Do You Need?

Planning an event and not sure how many portable restrooms you need? This quick guide walks you through the numbers — guest count, timing, summer heat, and hand-washing — so your guests stay comfortable all day. When you’re ready, browse our units or request a fast quote.

How Many Portable Restrooms Do You Need?

A good starting point is one unit per 50 guests. From there, adjust up for longer events, alcohol, and hot weather. Here’s a quick reference for a standard gathering:

Guests Up to 4 hours 4+ hours or alcohol
Up to 50 1 2
100 2 3
150 3 4
200 4 5
300 6 7

These are starting estimates. Serving alcohol, running long, or hosting in summer heat? Size up — see below.

Adjust for Time, Alcohol & Summer Heat

  • Longer than 4 hours? Add another unit — usage climbs the longer guests stay.
  • Serving alcohol? Plan for more. People make more trips.
  • Summer heat (85°+)? Heat means more hydration and more restroom trips. Add roughly 10% for hot-weather events, and size up for all-day gatherings.

Don’t Skip the Hand-Washing Station

If you’re serving food, you’ll want hand-washing on site. Plan for one station per 50–75 guests, and place them near the food. Hand-washing stations are a separate add-on — not a substitute for your restrooms. See our hand-washing stations →

Where to Place Your Units

  • Set units on level ground, away from the food and main gathering areas.
  • Keep delivery access in mind — our truck needs to get within about 15 feet of the drop spot.
  • Our units are fully self-contained — no power or water hookup required.

Cleaner & Classier Than You’d Expect

Today’s options go well beyond the basic porta potty. From flushable units to full luxury restroom trailers, everything is kept spotless and looking like new — so your guests are comfortable and impressed. See real photos of our units on the job →

Frequently Asked Questions

How many porta potties do I need for 100 guests?

For a standard event up to four hours, plan on about two units for 100 guests (one per 50). If your event runs longer or serves alcohol, add one more.

Do I need a hand-washing station?

If you’re serving food, yes. Plan for one hand-washing station per 50–75 guests and place them near the food. They’re a separate add-on, not a replacement for restrooms.

How many units should I add for an event serving alcohol?

Alcohol increases restroom trips, so plan for more than the base one-per-50 estimate — typically at least one extra unit per 50–100 guests.

How does summer heat change how many I need?

Hot weather (85°+) means more hydration and more restroom trips. Add about 10% to your estimate for summer events, and size up for all-day gatherings.

Do portable restrooms need power or water hookups?

No. Our units are fully self-contained — no power or water hookup required. We just need level ground and delivery access within about 15 feet.

How much delivery access do you need?

Our truck needs to get within roughly 15 feet of the placement spot on level ground. Let us know about any tight access when you request your quote.
